Description

This is a practice manual for reference in the prevention, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease in patients with a history of malignancy.

Purpose

This book provides a comprehensive, up-to-date overview of the management of patients with cardiovascular disease and cancer, and patients with cancer at risk of developing cardiovascular complications. The book can be read as a whole or by individual section as a quick reference manual for the treatment of specific combinations of these pathologies.

Audience

The intended audience includes cardiologists, oncologists, internists, physicians in training, and midlevel providers on a cardio-oncology care team. The chapter authors are national and international leaders in the field of cardio-oncology.

Features

The book has four parts, each divided into multiple chapters. Parts 1-3 detail the management of cardiovascular disease before, during, and after cancer treatment, respectively. Part 4 is a cancer therapeutic drug guide featuring pharmacologic mechanisms of action and their effects on the cardiovascular system. The management of each of the major classes of cancer is described in detail, with the staging, treatment, prognosis, and potential cardiovascular toxicities examined closely. The many evidence-based tables, graphs, and illustrations are well done and easy to understand. The flow charts for disease progression and management are very helpful in clinical decision-making.

Overall, the book provides a succinct blueprint for the field of cardio-oncology. It informs its readers of the ideology necessary to provide quality clinical care in this specific area of medicine and shapes the direction that the field of cardio-oncology will likely take as its importance continues to increase over the coming years.

Assessment

The quality of this book is excellent. It will be a valuable resource for cardiologists, oncologists, internists, physicians in training, and midlevel providers on a cardio-oncology care team.
