Description

If you are familiar with the two-volume reference titled Dermatology, 4th Edition, Bolognia et al. (Elsevier, 2018), envision this reference as the condensed version in paperback. The first edition was published in 2014. This book is meant to serve as an all-inclusive, mini dermatologic encyclopedia that provides treatment algorithms, discusses nuances in clinical diagnoses, and is rich in clinical images. The e-version provides more color-detailed photographs.

Purpose

The purpose of this book is to serve as the “go to” reference for those who need to establish a working differential diagnosis and treatment plan and order appropriate laboratory studies. The photographs are helpful, but the online images offer better detail and clarity.

Audience

The audience is general healthcare professionals such as family medicine clinicians, emergency physicians, internists, nurse practitioners, medical students, and pediatricians.

Features

This book is designed to teach clinicians how to think like a dermatologist. Readers are guided through the process of how to recognize skin lesion patterns and generate an accurate differential diagnosis. Tables are included demonstrating how to narrow the diagnosis down to the correct choices. The captions accompanying clinical photos share observational clues.

Assessment

This is a valuable resource for dermatologists and non-dermatologists. The book refers readers to the main Dermatology reference by the same authors should they need to read about a particular topic in greater depth. This book is dense and concise. There are no wasted words.
