Description

This updated third edition of this book on thoracic pathology incorporates advances in molecular pathology, updated diagnostic criteria, and new therapeutic modalities. The previous edition was published in 2017. There is online content associated with this book; however, at the time of this review, it had not yet been released.

Purpose

This book is meant to serve as a first-step reference for those encountering thoracic pathology.

Audience

The book is geared to trainees and practitioners alike, both general and subspecialized in thoracic pathology. Clinicians with an interest in thoracic pathology may find this book helpful.

Features

The book covers both neoplastic and non-neoplastic processes of the lung, pleura, and mediastinum in 10 sections spanning more than 800 pages. All entities have a subsection (when appropriate) for etiology, clinical presentation, imaging, and histologic features, as well as a summary subsection. A subsection for ancillary tests (IHC/molecular) and differential diagnoses is also included. Each entity has several high-quality microscopic images of salient features and/or comparisons with similar appearing entities with descriptive captions. The long and comprehensive list of references is provided and can be used to point readers to additional information and resources. The book also features numerous well-detailed tables. The main changes compared to the second edition include updates on interstitial lung disease and the addition of 26 new chapters.

Assessment

This thoracic pathology book provides an excellent and concise description of key features for each entity with excellent corresponding images. Both neoplastic and non-neoplastic entities are covered with the same degree of detail. This book will be a useful resource for those in training (residents and fellows alike) as well as practicing pathologists, both academic and private.
