Gina M. Allen, BM, DCH, MRCGP, MRCP, FRCR, MFSEM, DipESSR, MScSEM is Consultant Radiologist, Sports Medicine Physician, Oxford University Hospitals, St Luke’s Radiology, Oxford, UK.  She is a co-author of Ultrasound Guided Musculoskeletal Injections.

 

Dr. Allen obtained her medical degree at Southampton University and first trained as a General Practitioner in Nottingham. She then moved into Radiology and held posts as a Fellow in Orthopaedic Radiology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC) in Oxford, Honorary Consultant at the NOC, and Consultant Radiologist posts at the Royal Hospital Haslar as a Squadron leader in the RAF (now retired), West Wales Hospital Carmarthen, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, and University Hospitals Birmingham.

 

Dr. Allen was involved in the organization of the medical imaging for the 2012 London Olympic Games and volunteered for many diagnostic and interventional sessions for the athletes. She travels the world as a guest speaker at musculoskeletal conferences and training courses, and has published widely both in journals and books. She is a section editor for the European Journal of Radiology and the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine.

 

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Allen is the Course Director for the musculoskeletal ultrasound training courses run by St Luke’s Radiology. These are hands-on courses providing training in diagnostic and interventional ultrasound to health professionals from many different backgrounds and with a range of previous experience.  She is also a Teaching Associate and Student Advisor at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. Her areas of current research include MSc research in autologous blood and other injections for Achilles and patellar tendinosis, as well as research in elastography, ankle sprains, and shoulder injections.
