Howard M. Fillit, MD is a board certified geriatrician, neuroscientist and leading expert on Alzheimer’s disease. He is the founding executive director of the Institute for the Study of Aging, an Estée Lauder family foundation, and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation – organizations with a common mission of accelerating drug discovery for Alzheimer’s disease through venture philanthropy. Dr. Fillit has had a distinguished academic career at The Rockefeller University and The Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he is currently a clinical professor of geriatrics, medicine and neuroscience. He is the author or co-author of more than 300 scientific and clinical publications, and is the senior editor of the leading international Brocklehurst’s Textbook of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, 7th Edition.

Dr. Fillit is former corporate medical director for Medicare at New York Life where he provided program leadership for over 125,000 elderly people in several regional US markets. He has received awards and honors including the Rita Hayworth Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Alzheimer’s Association. Throughout his career, he has maintained a limited private practice in consultative geriatric medicine with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He has also served as a consultant to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, health care organizations and philanthropies.
