Leon Gordis, MD, DrPH, MPH, has been influencing the educations of medical students for more than three decades. He is professor emeritus at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and director of the Johns Hopkins Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. Dr. Gordis’ primary areas of study include epidemiology and public policy and the epidemiology of chronic diseases in childhood. He is an award-winning educator and researcher, and author of the renowned text Epidemiology, which is in its fifth edition.

Dr. Gordis delivered the 15th Robert S. Gordon Lecture for the NIH, a prestigious honor bestowed upon the best thinkers in medicine, and he has received multiple Golden Apple Awards, which is a student-selected recognition for top teachers at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Gordis has served as president for the American Epidemiological Society and the Society for Epidemiologic Research, and is a member of the Institute of Medicine and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
