“There’s been a tremendous change in medical knowledge… The wonderful thing about Campbell-Walsh Urology is that is that not only do we include that knowledge, but we include the gamut of authors.”  Louis Kavoussi, MD

Dr. Kavoussi’s Path to Urology

There is no greater field in medicine than urology.  My father was a physician, and I swore I was not going into medicine, knowing the long hours that he put in as a surgeon. And then, at the end of college, I decided that being a surgeon was what I wanted to do.  It’s been terrific. The honest truth about why I went into urology is that somebody said I reminded them of a urologist.  Based on that, I did a rotation and loved it.  I believe certain personalities go into certain fields.  No offense to anybody who is not a urologist, but there is no better group of physicians or colleagues than urologists.  I really believe that.

How does the book reflect the changing field of urology?

There’s been a tremendous change in medical knowledge, and especially surgical techniques in the area of minimally invasive surgery complementing open surgery. The wonderful thing about Campbell-Walsh Urology is that not only do we include that knowledge, but we include the gamut of authors. We have senior authors who’ve been doing open surgery for a long time who impart their expertise.  We also have some younger individuals who are immersed in the newer approaches who lend their perspectives and insights into treating urologic disease.
