Mordecai P. Blaustein, MD is Professor of Physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine; Director of the Maryland Center for Heart, Hypertension, and Kidney Disease; and Affiliate Professor at the Biotechnology Center, University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute. He is a co-author of Cellular Physiology and Neurophysiology, 3rd Edition.

 

Dr. Blaustein earned his MD from Washington University in St. Louis and did his post-doctoral training at Cambridge University. He was previously Chairman, Department of Physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Associate Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Washington University.

 

He is an award winning researcher in the area of hypertension, and has published extensively in this area. Hi research honors include the Pasarow Award for Cardiovascular Research, the Novartis Award for Hypertension Research (from the American Heart Association Council for High Blood Pressure Research), Senior Distinguished U.S. Scientist Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Society, and Research Lecturer of the Year Award from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. His work has been funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke, and the American Heart Association. Dr. Blaustein is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Biophysical Society, and the American Heart Association, and has served the American Physiological Society as a councilor and as chair of the Finance Committee.
