Robert H. Hawes, MD is an attending surgeon at Florida Hospital, and plays an integral role in the Institute for Minimally Invasive Therapy and the Center for Interventional Endoscopy. He is recognized as a top physician in the area of gastroenterology.  He has lectured worldwide, authored more than 250 peer reviewed articles in this field, written numerous book chapter, and is an author of the text Endosonography.

Upon completion of his medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Hawes completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy. He became a leader in the field, establishing a EUS training center at Indiana University, and a Digestive Disease Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. Throughout his career, he has also been active in many professional societies and organizations. Dr. Hawes has served on numerous committees and has held many leadership positions in such organizations as the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He has been awarded the Peter B. Cotton Endowed Chair for Endoscopic Innovation at the Medical University of South Carolina.
