Interview with Bryan E. Anderson, M.D.
How has The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Integumentary System, Volume 4, 3rd Edition evolved since the previous edition? How has it evolved since the first edition?
This is the second version of the Integumentary system. We have added a number of new plates / topics and completely updated the previous topics. New pathology micrographs have been introduced in the newest edition.
What is the most exciting aspect of The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Integumentary System, Volume 4, 3rd Edition? What chapter or topic covered in the new edition are you most excited about?
The new artwork and pathology photomicrographs are exciting. The artwork is outstanding. Hemangiomas, COVID -19, and porphyria
Who will find the greatest value from The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Integumentary System, Volume 4, 3rd Edition and why? Has the audience changed since the book was first published?
All students of dermatology from the layperson on to the dermatology resident. Art and drawings lend themselves to a different way of learning and allow the reader to visualize the topic at hand.
What new ideas, practices, or procedures would you like to highlight for the new edition?
New therapies for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. These therapies have had a profound effect in changing the prognosis for those individuals with metastatic melanoma.
What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve?
There are so many areas of research in dermatology. The mechanisms of skin cancer development, pathogenesis of dermatitis and psoriasis and the mechanism of itch are just a few research goals.
Is there anything else about the book you’d like to say?
All the credit goes to Dr. Netter and the other artists (Carlos, Tiffany, et al). Without their dedication and artistic ability, none of this would be available.
