Description
This is a transcription of the talks and lectures, as well as some images from the presentations, given at the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center Conference in November 2016. Each chapter is a different presentation, complete with its own resource page.
Purpose
The purpose is to educate readers about chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which was explained at the conference. This book fulfills that purpose, touching on a variety of subjects. This is a worthy objective because it provides readers who were not at that conference, or even people who were there, the most up-to-date information.
Audience
This intended audience is very broad. Anyone, from researchers, neurologists, and pathologists to residents, students, and lay people, can benefit from this book. It is easy to read, as it is a transcription. All speakers at this conference are experts in the field of CTE.
Features
The book (and therefore the conference) covers all aspects of CTE, including the history, the pathophysiology, current diagnostic criteria, and treatments, as well as the latest and upcoming advances. What makes this book particularly unique is that it includes chapters that have transcriptions of the panels that involved family who have lost loved ones to CTE and current athletes, providing a humanistic approach.
Assessment
I enjoyed this book and learned a lot from it. Anyone who has an interest in this topic can get baseline knowledge of CTE as well as our current understanding of it.
