Description

This is a comprehensive textbook that endeavors to cover the current field of robotic surgery. Purchase of the book enables access to an ebook with the usual search functions and portability; it also allows the reader to view 17 high-quality videos of operative procedures spanning the gamut of urologic, ENT, and general surgery. Because urology was an early adopter of robotic technology, it is appropriate that a large portion of the text is devoted to urologic applications. Other fields of surgery have not been neglected.

Purpose

The purpose of the book is to serve as an all-in-one reference for robotic surgery for the entire operating room team. This is a worthy objective, and the book fulfills it. Additional value is provided by access to the ebook and numerous high-quality videos.

Audience

The book is written for trainees, particularly those in fellowship, and practitioners in the field. The editors and authors are all internationally known robotic experts.

Features

The book begins with a section introducing robotic systems currently in use in surgery. After an initial chapter detailing the history, the section dives right into fundamentals, assisting, and attaining competence. A chapter on nontechnical skills provides important insight into how situational awareness and decision-making would be of benefit to all surgeons, not just those who embrace robotics. Subsequent sections deal with the use in various specialties, beginning with urology. The book is lavishly illustrated with diagrams and photographs.

Assessment

This is a high-quality comprehensive textbook that covers the gamut of robotic surgery. It will be of value to trainees and practitioners in the field alike.
