Description
I love this book. It has decreased my paper pile of “valuable articles” I would save to refer to when I had “tried everything” and needed outside-the-box help. This book is organized alphabetically by skin disorder. A color photo accompanies each discussion. The photos are acceptable quality but when you look at the same photo in the ebook version, the detail is excellent. The previous fifth edition was published in 2018. With so many new biologics available, the new edition is definitely needed.
Purpose
The purpose is to be a thorough, up-to-date reference for treating tough dermatologic cases. The treatments are rated first line, second line, and third line and they are rated as to the strength of the evidence supporting their use.
Audience
The audience is clinical dermatologists.
Features
The great appeal is the comprehensiveness of treatment recommendations and the strategic discussions presented that help the clinician decide which therapeutic path to pursue. Treatments that have not yet been approved are covered, which I like. It allows me to be on the lookout for the next new possible medication. Practical diagnostic information is included. Of course, it is imperative to make sure you have the correct diagnosis. This book will be challenging to use as a non-dermatologist.
Assessment
Not a day goes by that I don’t refer to this book. It is super quick to look up virtually anything and read about the therapy in under five minutes. I thank Dr. Lebwohl for sharing his wisdom and insights with me on a daily basis.
