Description
This is the sixth edition of the well-loved “purple” book that I used while in training years ago. It presents key concepts in radiology in a bulleted, overview format.
Purpose
It is intended as a comprehensive overview of all organ systems. It provides key information on important concepts, presented in an easy-to-read format.
Audience
The book is targeted largely at radiology trainees, particularly those studying for the ABR core examination. However, it is also very appropriate for practicing radiologists in need of point-of-care information. The authors are highly esteemed radiologists and researchers.
Features
Although it uses a bulleted format, unlike many other books using this format, this one is written with full sentences that make it easy to read. It provides a thorough overview of key topics in imaging, supported by high-quality illustrations and pertinent tables. The topics flow well and chapters build on each other. The book is well written and reinforces important points on each topic. The GI and GU chapters are particularly well done.
Assessment
This continues to be a staple for every radiology resident in the country. All residency programs should have multiple copies available for trainees and faculty alike.
