This edition is the first to be called Miller’s Basics of Anesthesia, recognizing Dr. Ronald D. Miller’s leadership of the book throughout his career. The main changes have included consolidating some chapters from the prior edition, as well as including new chapters on topics such as clinician well-being, point of care ultrasound, perioperative medicine, and the environmental impact of anesthesia care. At the time of the first edition in 1999, several excellent multivolume textbooks of ophthalmology existed. However, we believed a complete, single-volume textbook directed towards trainees, non-ophthalmologists, and those general ophthalmologists who wanted an update in areas that they were not experts in would fill a niche. Ophthalmology was created to fill this void between the multivolume and the narrow subspecialty book. Each section was color coded for easy access. With each new edition, we have strived to make it comprehensive, readable, and easy to access. We have routinely added new material and discarded outdated material with each edition. There have been remarkable advances in the field of cataract surgery over the past several years.  Since the last (3rd) edition, which was published in 2009, our knowledge, technology, and techniques for the pre-, intra-, and post-operative management of these patients have evolved dramatically. I wrote this book to try to help make optics accessible (and fun!) for a student learning it for the first time. Many students starting out in optometry or dispensing might not have a strong math/physics background, but the physics of light is crucial to understanding vision and refraction. Unfortunately, a lot of the key texts available at the moment, while very good, are written for a specialist audience which can be off-putting for someone who is less experienced in the field. MORE
