Interview with Joseph Iannotti MD and Richard Parker, MD
How has The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Musculoskeletal System Package, 3rd Edition, changed since the previous edition? How has it evolved since the first edition?
Dr. Iannotti: We added new content and updated the concepts for all three volumes of the musculoskeletal series from the previous edition: new text and visual supporting materials.
Dr. Parker: In addition, we added Associate Editors who are current Orthopaedic Leadership which will ensure continuity of this relationship between Cleveland Clinic and Elsevier.
What is the most exciting aspect of The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Musculoskeletal System Package, 3rd Edition? What chapter or topic covered in the new edition are you most excited about?
Dr. Iannotti: I am most excited about the new material that covers the treatment of the irreparable rotator cuff tear in the shoulder section. This included material on muscle transfers and other new techniques to treat this difficult problem that affects so many patients.
Dr. Parker: Most exciting is the eBook version which allows the browser to search content. He/she can make notes and even use it as an audiobook.
Who will find the greatest value from The Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations: Musculoskeletal System Package, 3rd Edition and why? Has the audience changed since the book was first published?
Dr. Iannotti: The greatest value for the collection is the concise text pared with the visual content. This makes the material useful to both the experienced and novice clinician and student.
Dr. Parker: I agree the greatest value is its concise text and pared visual content. As we know healthcare is an everchanging field with new types of caregivers emerging every year. This collection translates to all levels of caregivers and providers.
What new ideas, practices, or procedures would you like to highlight for the new edition?
Dr. Parker: A disciplined review of the book content and then reviewing the eBook will provide a comprehensive learning opportunity.
What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve?
Dr. Iannotti: There are many new biologic solutions and therapies to treat musculoskeletal problems. It is my hope and future generations are able to bring these solutions to clinical practice.
