Interview with Dr. Jessica Labadie
How has your Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition evolved since the previous edition? How has it evolved since the first edition?
The Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition reflects significant advancements in scar management, both in terms of clinical techniques and emerging technologies. Since the first edition, we’ve seen a greater focus on personalized treatment plans and the integration of combination treatment with both medical and procedural interventions. Compared to the previous edition, this version also includes more detailed case studies and real-world applications of treatment strategies.
What is the most exciting aspect of the Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition? What chapter or topic covered in the new edition are you most excited about?
We are particularly excited about the chapter dedicated to case studies in scar management. This chapter is new to this edition and incorporates step by step approaches for each type of scar.
Who will find the greatest value from Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition and why? Has the audience changed since the book first published?
Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition is aimed at clinicians working in fields related to scar management, such as plastic surgeons, and dermatologists, but it will also be invaluable to students and professionals in wound care and rehabilitation. The audience has definitely expanded since the first edition, particularly with the increasing recognition of the importance of scar management in mental and physical recovery.
What new ideas, practices, or procedures would you like to highlight for Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition?
One of the standout ideas we want to highlight is the need for personalized treatment. Scars are best treated with an individualized combination approach often incorporating both medical and surgical management. Furthermore, we’re seeing a shift toward involving patients more directly in their scar management plans, which not only improves outcomes but also boosts their confidence and mental well-being.
What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve?
We hope that the future generation of professionals in scar management will be able to create more universally accessible and affordable treatment options for patients. Right now, there are incredible treatments available, but they often come with high costs or aren’t accessible to all populations. We also hope to see advancements in tissue regeneration that will allow us to heal scars at a cellular level, potentially reversing or significantly reducing scarring altogether. Ultimately, we believe the future lies in a more personalized approach to scar management, where treatment is tailored not only to the patient’s physical needs but also to their emotional and psychological well-being.
Is there anything else about Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition you’d like to say?
Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology: Scar Management, 2nd Edition is not just a guide for treating scars—it’s a resource for understanding the profound impact that scars have on a person’s life. Scarring is not just a physical issue; it can deeply affect someone’s sense of self, confidence, and quality of life. Our hope is that it serves as a tool for professionals to create more compassionate, holistic care for individuals recovering from scarring.
