Interview with Dr. Scott Worswick

Why did you feel that it was important to write a book on this topic? What does Decision-Making in Dermatology, 1st Edition add to the field?

I was very excited to create Decision-Making in Dermatology, 1st Edition because clinical differential diagnosis building in dermatology is one of the aspects of our field that makes it unique and draws some of the smartest medical students to our field. At the same time, there is very little in the way of published articles and textbooks on this topic, despite it being a foundation of our field. We put together with the help of many experts in the field a book that can serve as a foundation of learning for students, residents, and physicians in other fields.

What is the most exciting aspect of Decision-Making in Dermatology, 1st Edition? What chapter or topic covered are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the chapters that are particularly novel, including a chapter on erythema (different from erythroderma) and the many chapters that take into account both morphology and distribution.

Who will find the greatest value from Decision-Making in Dermatology, 1st Edition and why?

Learners who are starting to study dermatology will find this book most useful (medical students, new residents, family practitioners) but there are pearls in here for everyone, even the most seasoned dermatologists.

What new ideas, practices, or procedures do you hope your readers take away from Decision-Making in Dermatology, 1st Edition?

I hope a more structured approach to differentials with specific rash types and lesions will be gained by anyone who reads this book, or who uses it as a reference

What problem do you hope the future generation of your specialty will be able to solve?

I hope our next generations will be able to more accurately diagnose patients with skin disease and then have targeted treatments that can cure people of these diseases.
