We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Ronald D. Miller on February 27, 2025. A luminary in the field of anesthesiology, Dr. Miller’s contributions to anesthesia education and practice have left an indelible mark on the profession.
Across Elsevier, Dr. Miller is best known for his seminal work, Miller’s Anesthesia, the definitive textbook in the field. First published in 1981, this comprehensive resource has become the cornerstone of anesthesia education and reference worldwide. Under his meticulous guidance, each edition was updated to reflect the latest advancements in both basic science and clinical practice, ensuring it remained an indispensable reference for anesthesia providers. Dr. Miller retired from editorial work on Miller’s Anesthesia after the 8th edition, passing the torch to Professor and Chair of the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, Michael Gropper.
In addition to Miller’s Anesthesia, Dr. Miller authored and edited numerous influential texts, including Miller’s Basics of Anesthesia and Miller’s Anesthesia Review.
