This is the fifth edition of a book covering all aspects of adult critical care medicine. This edition includes access to an ebook version and additional online resources.
This update seeks to provide a comprehensive and detailed resource to assist in caring for critically ill adults regardless of the specific aspect of critical care, and the book succeeds in effectively conveying this large volume of information.
Physician intensivists, all nonphysician clinicians such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners, and trainees from internship through fellowship working in an intensive care unit will find this book useful for education and patient care. The authors are significant in number and recognized experts in this area.
The book is divided into nine parts, each containing several chapters, on topics that range from procedures and pharmacology to pathophysiology of an organ system. Pathophysiology-based chapters proceed in a logical manner to provide an in-depth overview of the problem foProcedure-based chapters explain benefits of procedures, indications, and complications. Each chapter concludes with bulleted key points as a summary as well as several selected references. The pages are full of images, tables, and clinically derived visuals such as radiological images or cardiac tracings. The book concludes with an index that is easy to reference.llowed by details on how to evaluate patients with treatment options.
This is a comprehensive resource for anyone treating critically ill adults. The book includes sufficient detail to enable novices to understand a topic, but it is also appropriate for those with more experience to use to refresh their knowledge. The online access is user friendly and provides additional resources not available in the print book. The quality of the content and presentation is clearly equal to other comprehensive books in this area.
