ISBN: 9780323694124

Publication Date: December 14, 2022

Reviewer: Aileen Westrick, MD (Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group)

Description

This book is one of the main reference texts for this specialty. The complete edition comprises two textbooks and is extremely comprehensive, featuring a thorough table of contents and index. This eighth edition book is an update to the previous version, which was published in 2015.

Purpose

As with all medical subspecialties, endocrinology has had the advent of new medications, conditions, and discoveries over the last decade. This book includes many new authors who have contributed at least 88 new chapters.

Audience

This book is well-suited for graduating endocrine fellows, and any clinical or research educators in this subspecialty. Each chapter is written by three authors, and the contributors are leaders in the field.

Features

The main sections are organized by organ system. Each chapter begins with an outline including sections on epidemiology, pathology, clinical presentation, investigation, and management. Key points are scattered throughout the chapters, which are helpful and high-yield. Many chapters include cytology and radiology images to supplement the text. Each chapter provides a few tables which also highlight important information.

Assessment

While other textbooks cover endocrinology comprehensively, oftentimes they focus either on the basic science or clinical aspects of the field. This book is a unique reference that includes basic science aspects as part of each section.
