Description

The 20th edition of Nelson’s Textbook of Pediatrics has grown to two volumes and is accompanied by an online version. The first edition was published in 1959.

Purpose

The purpose is to provide an essential resource for pediatricians (and pediatric providers) who care for infants, children, and adolescents. This is definitely a worthy objective. I have used Nelson for the past 40-plus years. since I was a medical student.

Audience

The audience includes medical students, house staff, and any other healthcare providers who care for infants, children, and adolescents.

Features

This edition is organized so that readers can find the clinical condition, disorder, or disease in either an anatomic or system-based manner. It also includes sections on development, quality, laboratory medicine, and environmental health hazards, as well as an overview of pediatrics as a specialty.

Assessment

This is an excellent and comprehensive resource for students, house staff, practitioners, and other caretakers of infants, children, and adolescents. The editors and authors have done an outstanding job of providing an updated print and online version of a classic. I enjoyed accessing and working through the online version and will continue to use this book as an essential resource, just as the editors have stated in their preface.
