Description

This book is a companion atlas and case-based guide to Hematology: Basic Principles and Practice, 7th edition, Hoffman et al. (Elsevier, 2017). The website contains essentially most of the contents of this book.

Purpose

The purpose of this book is to provide “case-based, case-like formats integrating ancillary work-up as well as diagnostics algorithms” for primarily neoplastic hematology/Hematopathology. These are worthy objectives met by this book. The online presentation adds value by allowing virtual access from anywhere and by presenting the figures in glorious full color and adjustable size.

Audience

This book is intended for “current trainees, medical students, residents, fellows, and junior to senior clinical and scientific faculty in pathology and hematology/oncology.” It will also be of interest to medical laboratory scientists (in training or in practice) working in these specialized areas of the clinical laboratory (e.g., flow cytometry, cytogenetics, molecular testing, hematology, etc.). This book meets the needs of the intended audience. The authors are well-respected authorities.

Assessment

This is a great addition to the current offerings of clinical hematology or Hematopathology atlases, filling a specialized and practical niche where these clinical services intersect in real life (e.g., tumor boards). The online version makes it very easy to access and enhance learning in real-time during such multidisciplinary conferences.
