Description
This atlas on the spectrum of endovascular venous interventions includes access to an accompanying website, which includes an electronic version of the book and 17 videos of procedures described in the book. This second edition includes more up-to-date techniques, technology, and medical management recommendations.
Purpose
The purpose is to provide an illustrated guide to the endovascular management of venous diseases. Although this is an atlas, the information the book provides in many chapters is as comprehensive as would be expected from a textbook. The accompanying online materials, most notably the procedural videos, are an excellent supplement to the written and visual depictions of procedures in the book.
Audience
It is suitable for any proceduralist who manages venous disease. Vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and interventional cardiologists, trainees in these fields, vascular technicians, and operating room nurses all can benefit. The author and many of the contributors are well known and highly accomplished in this field and are authorities in guiding the management of venous pathology.
Features
This atlas covers the breadth of modern venous practice. After introductory chapters on anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, the book then has a section on several venous ablation techniques. Next, it addresses the management of venous thromboembolic disease with sections on IVC interruption, pharmacomechanical and catheter directed thrombolysis, and post-thrombotic syndrome. Finally, the book covers venous occlusive disease and rare venous disorders and presents consensus guidelines from the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Venous Forum.
Assessment
This is an excellent addition to the libraries of vascular interventionalists who perform venous procedures. It is a timely update and should be used as a procedural supplement to textbooks on venous disease and vascular surgery.
