Description

This book presents updates in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The book is well structured and concise and efficient when discussing topics. The website and ebook are easy to access and navigate and offer more practice questions. The last edition was published in 2015.

Purpose

The purpose of this edition is to update content for general physiatrists. The book provides a good framework to medical students, residents, and attendings for reviewing general concepts. This update is needed as there has been new research and growth within physical medicine and rehabilitation via research and clinical care. Having access to material both in print and online is extremely helpful. The website meets the objectives that the book sets out in print.

Audience

This book, which provides foundational information, is meant for students, residents, and current practitioners. It meets the needs of practicing physicians while understandable by current learners. The authors and contributors have credentials and reputations as leaders in the field.

Features

The chapters are written concisely, providing enough detail without overburdening readers. The reviews at the end of each chapter highlight the key takeaways for readers in a rush. As with any textbook, there is material that is not included, which may be relevant, but this is expected.

Assessment

This updated edition provides recent findings from research and clinical practice. There has been great growth in physical medicine and rehabilitation so it was appropriate to update this textbook to keep up with modern practice. The book met my expectations.
