Description
This is the 14th edition of the classic, go-to reference in orthopedic surgery.Campbell’s has become the fundamental reference that every American orthopedic resident uses as core knowledge during their residency training. The book then becomes the foundation of most orthopedic surgeons’ home libraries waiting only for timely new editions to maintain currency in the field. This edition updates the field of orthopedics from the 2017 edition.
Purpose
Historically having been described as the “bible of orthopedics,” Campbell’s remains true to its original mission of presenting to students, general practitioners, and surgeons the field of orthopedics in a simple, efficient, but comprehensive manner.
Audience
The book is targeted at both residents in training and orthopedic surgeons in practice. Campbell’s has long filled this role and this 14th edition led by Drs. Fred Azar and James Beaty stays true to its history.
Features
The initial chapters outline fundamental principles that apply to all facets of orthopedics. Subsequent chapters are designed to cover all subspecialties including adult reconstruction, spine, hand, foot-ankle, trauma, sports medicine, and pediatrics. Images are of highest quality and allow readers to better understand not only anatomy, but how to perform the techniques.
Assessment
For nearly 8o years, Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics has remained the classic comprehensive reference for orthopedics. This edition stays true to that history and is an essential and timely update. Every orthopedic library and institutional library should have the most up-to-date edition available for its orthopedic surgeons. All residents in training should continue to use it as their first line in orthopedic education.
