Purpose

This book continues to codify the recent evidence-based medical literature defining the standard of medical care in the United States.

Audience

This is a basic, yet comprehensive text on medicine for every clinician, resident in training, and experienced attending of every specialty as the information flows through all the specialties.

Features

This book is divided into 19 sections covering the traditional organ systems and augmented with sections on geriatrics, alcohol and substance use, women’s health, men’s health, and palliative care. Each section has individual chapters specific to the section, such as disorders of mineral metabolism, principles of cancer therapy, neuromuscular junction disease, and preoperative and perioperative care. Each chapter begins with normal anatomy and physiology followed by a review of specific topics relevant to the section and chapter. The text is supported by extensive figures and tables with full-color photos and microphotographs characteristic of the disorder. The imaging studies are outstanding in their detail and clarity.

Assessment

This edition continues the tradition of extraordinary excellence in defining the standard of medical care for which Cecil Essentials of Medicine is renowned.
