Description
Last revised in 2012, this third edition covers common thoracic diseases with diagnostic imaging relevance. The updated text builds on the previous edition by adding the most recent changes to diagnostic criteria, imaging, and standards of care. Notably, the book has added new chapters on COVID-19 and e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI). The book includes radiographic, CT, MR, and PET/CT images, and the accompanying digital version of the text provides additional reference images. Complete with annotated images and written in concise bullet points, this book is a fast, easy-to-read reference text for practicing physicians.
Purpose
The purpose of this book is to present succinct descriptions of cardiothoracic disease presentation by providing high-resolution images, illustrations, key diagnostic criteria, and information relevant to the disease.
Audience
This book is best suited for practicing diagnostic radiologists, residents, and fellows.
Features
Organized by both anatomic location and category of disease, the book has 13 sections. The first section contains broad, illustrated terminologies and chest radiographic and CT signs. The scope of the book narrows as the sections approach specific topics. The book covers developmental abnormalities such as scimitar syndrome and atrial septal defects. Moving on to airway diseases, thoracic infections, pulmonary neoplasms, and other lung diseases, the book covers bronchiectasis, emphysema, a variety of pneumonias, lung cancers, lymphomas, smoking and inhalation-related illnesses, and more. The book then discusses various diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, mixed connective tissue disease, HIV/AIDS, Goodpasture syndrome, and other diseases under the immunological, connective tissue, and vasculitis umbrella. Transitioning into mediastinal abnormalities and cardiovascular disorders, the book has information dedicated to thymic cysts, hiatal hernias, aortic aneurysm, and more. The final, shorter sections discuss post-treatment chest scans, pleural diseases, and chest wall and diaphragm relevance.
Assessment
This is a thorough resource for diagnostic radiologists as it has the most recent information available for diagnostic criteria, treatments, and the best course of imaging for specific diseases. With the new chapters on COVID-19 and EVALI, this book is truly up to date and highly relevant. The book is well organized and accessible, and the digital access is a wonderful tool as it provides additional imaging and resources, such as videos.
