Description

There is always room for another excellent clinical pediatric dermatology book. This reference is in such a category. Quality photographs show nuanced characteristic skin changes that are important for making the correct diagnosis. Unlike many books that simply have a caption with the name of the condition, the captions in this book add to readers’ perceptions in studying the photos. The bread and butter of pediatric dermatology is well covered. Topics are grouped according to primary lesions, making it more intuitive to learn.

Purpose

The purpose is to teach pediatric dermatology to those in the medical profession.

Audience

The audience is pediatricians, family practitioners, medical students, and dermatologists.

Features

There are helpful diagnostic algorithms that help readers sort out the process of arriving at the correct diagnoses. I liked the chapter devoted to reactive erythemas. This was a clever way of discussing these entities as presenting as erythema that develops in response to environmental, infectious, and autoimmune etiologies versus subdividing them into numerous and confusing subcategories.

Assessment

The author has put a great deal of effort into making pediatric dermatology principles accessible and logical to master. I look forward to subsequent editions. Anyone interested in learning pediatric dermatology would do well to read this book.
