Description
This book addresses the many advances made with newer botulinum A toxins, expanded indications (aesthetic and medical), and better injection techniques. Drs. Carruthers are pioneers in the use of botulinum toxin A. This edition is a welcome update for honing injection techniques and cosmetic repertoire. The previous edition was published in 2018. The electronic version of the book includes videos demonstrating patient evaluations, decision-making for injection placement for best results, and correct administration of an intradermal injection to minimize complications. The videos are narrated with useful tips and the injection administration is clearly visualized.
Purpose
The purpose is to teach basic and advanced techniques of incorporating botulinum toxin A into aesthetic dermatology practices.
Audience
The audience is dermatologists who provide aesthetic services for cosmetic and rejuvenation concerns.
Features
The book discusses the differences between the various botulinum toxin A preparations used for aesthetics in detail. Doses vary depending on the product being administered. Successful administration depends on understanding facial anatomy and insertion and attachments of the muscles to be injected and their vectors of action in animating the face. The authors provide excellent advice on injection placement decision making and minimizing side-effects. Should side-effects occur, the book explains causes of unwanted effects, treatment, and how to avoid them in the future. Videos demonstrate the injection techniques. Each chapter deals with a region of the face, the anatomy, and targeted muscles for Botox.
Assessment
I have accumulated so many books on how to administer botulinum toxin. This will replace all my current references. It is superb in clarity, diagrams, and explanations. The authors are artists, and we are lucky that they are sharing their knowledge. This is a definite buy.
