Description
This is an update of a book on stroke last published in 2015. The accompanying website contains videos with an illustration of a disorder with important images, such as MRIs of the brain and cerebral angiograms.
Purpose
The purpose is to provide basic and fundamental knowledge in stroke pathophysiology with the correct diagnosis, along with an updated management plan. These are worthy objectives, and this book is essential to get a good grip on stroke mechanisms. The online format makes the information easily accessible wherever needed. Both the book and website meet the objectives with thorough descriptions of the disease process which are then demonstrated through videos.
Audience
The audience includes medical students, residents in neurology, stroke fellows, and any other practitioners who have an interest in stroke management. Although targeted at those in neurology and neurosurgery, the book is also appropriate for basic science researchers with an interest in stroke research.
Features
The book covers the basic gross anatomy with histopathology and etiopathogenesis of different types of strokes. The best aspect is the very well organized elaboration of disease characteristics with pathophysiological changes through to treatment. It covers well the classification of subtypes with etiology. A unique feature is the use of histopathology pictures with short descriptions.
Assessment
This is a great resource for clinicians, specifically vascular neurologists. The website makes it easy to get access anywhere.
