This third edition is a worthy update from the previous editions. It provides a solid framework for orthopedic sports medicine surgeons. The figures and videos provide helpful insight and the structured format of chapter overviews, including pearls and pitfalls, concisely wrap up each chapter. 

Purpose  

The goal of this book is to be a comprehensive reference guide for open and arthroscopic surgeries, providing a consistent, step-by-step approach for everything surgeons need to know before entering the operating room. 

Audience  

The target audience is any orthopedic surgeon who performs shoulder, elbow, and knee procedures or works on these body parts, but especially orthopedic sports surgeons, orthopedic sports fellows, and orthopedic residents-in-training.  It is a great book to review prior to the operating room for all physicians in training. Dr. Brian Cole has been an established global educator and expert in the field for nearly three decades and Dr. Jorge Chahla is perhaps the brightest rising star in all of orthopedic sports medicine. 

Features  

The book is organized anatomically in major sections to cover the shoulder, elbow, and knee. My favorite part of each chapter is the overview, which provides a synopsis, important points, pearls, and pitfalls. Each chapter is wonderfully written by a cadre of experts in the field and includes high-quality images and tables, which help to summarize the key concepts in an efficient manner. 

Assessment   

This book is a timely update from the previous edition and will certainly remain an important part of my personal collection, as well as our institutional library.
