Description

This is a short but excellent and inclusive overview of medical microbiology with a short section of review questions. Unfortunately, the code for the website did not work and I got a message that it was an invalid PIN.

Purpose

The purpose is to provide a good overview of medical microbiology. In 200 pages, the authors present important facts on human pathogens including bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.

Audience

This book is suitable for medical students and students interested in medical microbiology, but it does not cover the pathogens in great detail, so it is not appropriate for students interested in basic science of human pathogens. As indicated by its title, the book presents the basic facts but doesn’t provide great detail.

Features

The book covers all important infectious human pathogens (e.g. bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites). The strength of the book lies in the short precise presentation of the topics combined with the clinical cases. The book is very well structured and each section can stand by itself.

Assessment

This book is useful for students looking for a short, well presented overview of medical microbiology. There are certainly books with more detailed descriptions of human pathogens, but this one is an excellent overview and is well suited for exam preparation, while others just overwhelm with detail.
