Description
Part of the highly valued Diagnostic Pathology series, this concise book rounds up radiologic, gross, and morphologic features of non-neoplastic and neoplastic entities in bone pathology, a particularly challenging area of pathology.
Purpose
In the strong tradition of that series with its concise but comprehensive approach to pathology, this book is an excellent resource for day-to-day bone pathology sign-out and it complements more in-depth and detailed bone pathology references.
Audience
A broad range of medical professionals will find this to be an invaluable companion in their daily practice. Medical students interested in pathology, pathology residents, fellows, practicing general pathologists, bone and soft tissue pathologists, radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, and medical and radiation oncologists all will find it useful.
Features
Due to rarity of bone tumors and the absolute need for incorporating radiologic findings, most pathologists may not get enough exposure to bone pathology in their training and practice. This book fills that gap beautifully with 15 sections covering benign and malignant bone forming tumors, benign and malignant cartilage tumors, fibrohistiocytic tumors, giant cell rich tumors, vascular tumors, and bone tumor mimics, among others. Each section includes a number of thematically related chapters that follow a similar format: the chapter opens with key facts including terminology, clinical issues, imaging, macroscopic, microscopic, and top differential diagnosis. The key facts segment serves as quick and handy read through and is followed by an expansion of each heading. Each chapter is accompanied by stunning radiologic, gross, and microscopic images. Every image has a brief, but to the point, caption that adds great value. The level of artwork and the quality and relevancy of images is outstanding.
Assessment
Bone pathology is one of the most subspecialized and challenging areas of pathology. The senior editors and authors of this book are well recognized and highly regarded bone and soft tissue pathologists and radiologists. This book makes the authors’ knowledge and their approach to bone pathology accessible in an organized and systematic fashion. Clear subheadings and the bulleted format make the book easy to read. The wealth of high quality radiology, gross, and microscopic images is certainly a strong point. Anyone even remotely interested in bone pathology will find this an invaluable addition to their resources.
