The book is a comprehensive hematology textbook. The previous edition was published in 2017. Purchase of the book enables the reader to access the eBook version. It is a single volume weighing 11.2 pounds.

Purpose

The book’s objective is to provide hematology practitioners and trainees with an updated summary of all topics in hematology, from both the basic science and clinical perspective. The ebook website is a useful resource; it contains a comprehensive reference list and other content. The book and the eBook meet their objectives.

Audience

This book comprehensively covers all aspects of hematology, including a focus on genetics. Following the basic science introduction chapters, benign (classical) and malignant hematologic disorders are discussed in detail. The volume is richly illustrated with color and black and white images. If a readers of the hard copy book want a reference, it may only be available in the eBook version. The hard copy only has a short list of “Suggested Readings” for each chapter.

Assessment

This is a useful addition to a hematologist’s library. Given the rapid advances in the field, this new edition is warranted. Although the book has a publication date of 2023, the book’s content for some chapters has information only up to 2021/2022. For example, the 2022 WHO/ICC classification revisions for hematologic malignancies are not included. This problem is not unique to this book but is a problem for all major textbooks that have delays from chapter submission to book publication.
