Description

This book is an updated authoritative reference for the medical, endovascular, and surgical management of vascular disease. The 10th edition retains its two editors, Dr. Sidawy and Dr. Perler, and serves as the successor to the 2018 ninth edition. As compared to the ninth edition, the 10th edition provides an expanded 207 chapters across 32 focused sections covering the totality of topics in vascular surgery. Chapters now also include diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms specific to the topic.

Purpose

The book seeks to provide an encyclopedic reference for the entirety of commonplace vascular problems as well as the esoteric challenges infrequently seen by the vascular specialist. Such objectives are critical for the training and ongoing study of vascular disease. In this regard, the book is a unique authoritative reference and is critically needed for contemporary management of vascular disease. The authors have succeeded in achieving the objectives.

Audience

The book is written primarily for an audience of vascular surgeons and their trainees. However, radiologists, cardiologists, and vascular medicine physicians similarly benefit from the book’s contents. The book exhaustively spans the spectrum of circulatory disease and meets the needs of the target audience. The editors are well equipped to update the ninth edition and are joined by a similarly impressive cadre of associate editors. The authors and editors are extremely well-recognized experts in the field of vascular surgery and include a number of multidisciplinary authorities.

Features

The book is divided into 32 focused sections and further separated into 207 chapters that cover the full span of vascular disease from vascular biology to diagnosis of vascular disease to operative management. One commendable feature of the book’s organization is the addition of diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms alongside the majority of chapters. Similarly, the editors elected to include a new section on technology platforms in the modern practice of vascular surgery. Chapters are accompanied by high-quality color images and videos when viewed electronically. The most unique aspect of this book is its all-encompassing topics in vascular surgery, which proves invaluable for the intended audience.

Assessment

The editors and authors have succeeded in producing a contemporary and comprehensive guide for the art and science of vascular surgery, covering the totality of vascular surgery topics. This book is peerless in the current literature in terms of scope and depth of knowledge. This current edition provides additional chapters and content to reflect modern surgical practice.

Additional emphasis has been placed on open operative techniques given the increasing prevalence of endovascular interventions. As such, the updated version is both merited and needed to keep pace with the rapidly evolving field of vascular surgery.
