Allen Van Beek, MD is a renowned plastic surgeon and adjunct professor of surgery at the University of Minnesota. A prolific author and highly regarded educator, Dr. Van Beek has authored dozens of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is video editor of Plastic Surgery: 6-Volume Set, 3rd Edition. He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field with numerous awards, including the Distinguished Service Award of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Distinguished Service Award of the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation, and the Schafer Excellence in Health Care Award from the University of St. Mary.
Dr. Van Beek completed his medical degree at the University of Minnesota. He then went on to finish a residency in general surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a residency in plastic surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He also completed a Kleinert Fellowship in Hand Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Surgery, and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has been president of the Minnesota Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, president of the Southern Minnesota Medical Association, and president of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve. He has also served on the boards of the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation and the American Association for Hand.
