Andrew J. Nowalk, MD, PhD is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is on staff in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Dr. Nowalk is a co-author of Zitelli and Davis’ Atlas of Pediatric Physical Diagnosis, 6th Edition.
Dr. Nowalk is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases with a special expertise in Lyme disease. His research interests include the molecular basis of pediatric disease.
Dr. Nowalk is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, Infectious Disease Society of America, American Society for Microbiology, and National Physicians Alliance.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1999, Dr. Nowalk went on to perform a residency and fellowship at the University Health Center of Pittsburgh.
In 2012, Dr. Nowalk received an Excellence in Education Award from his home institution. Other honors have included an endowed research instructorship in pediatrics, a first-year fellow teaching award, and an NIH Medical Scientist Training Program Scholarship. In addition, Dr. Nowalk has served as National President of the American Medical Student Association.
