Asokumar Buvanendran, MD is a leading pain specialist and associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center. He is author of numerous texts in the field. His credits include numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and eight book chapters. He is also an author of the text Intrathecal Drug Delivery for Pain and Spasticity.
Dr. Buvanendran’s notable experience in the field is enhanced by his extensive involvement in various professional organizations. He is an active member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, and the American Medical Association. He is also recognized for his research in the areas of acute pain service management, preparation of anesthetic pathways for orthopedic anesthesia, and administrative management of orthopedic anesthesia. Dr. Buvanendran has been recognized for his work in the field with an Abbott Laboratories Resident Scholars Program grant from the Foundation for Anesthesia, Education and Research; a Rush Surgical Sciences Clinical Research Award; second prize at the Chicago Medical Society’s Annual Residents’ Unusual Clinical Case Vignettes Competition; and first prize at the Mid-West Anesthesia Resident Conference for Pain/Regional section.
