Barbara E. Shapiro, MD, PhD is Associate Professor of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Director, Neuromuscular Research at University Hospitals of Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a co-author of the highly regarded Electromyography and Neuromuscular Disorders, 3rd Edition.
Dr. Shapiro received degrees from Boston University and Johns Hopkins University, and earned her medical degree from University of Miami School of Medicine and her PhD from Harvard University. She performed an internship in medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital, a residency in neurology at Harvard Longwood Neurological Training Program, and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. She holds board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Shapiro’s clinical and research interests include peripheral neuropathy, metabolic and muscular dystrophy, entrapment neuropathy, neuromuscular disorders, and late onset Tay-Sachs disease.
