Bhuvanesh Singh, MD, PhD, FACS is Director of the Laboratory of Epithelial Cancer Biology and Associate Attending Surgeon and Instructor in the Head and Neck Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He is a co-author of the highly regarded Jatin Shah’s Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology, 4th Edition.
Dr. Singh received his MD from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and his PhD from Netherlands Cancer Institute/University of Amsterdam. He performed a residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is board certified in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery.
Dr. Singh has extensive experience in surgery and an in-depth understanding of each of the disciplines involved in the treatment of head and neck cancer. His desire to treat the whole patient and to improve patient cure rates and quality of life led him to study cancer genetics to gain a better understanding of head and neck cancers. Dr. Singh obtained a PhD to supplement his clinical knowledge, and is now actively involved in clinical and laboratory research aimed at improving the treatment of patients with cancer. His team’s research has helped to establish treatment approaches that serve as cornerstones for modern management of head and neck cancers.
Dr. Singh has been asked to share his expertise at numerous national and international meetings. In addition, he was asked by the American Joint Committee on Cancer to help develop a new staging system for head and neck cancers, which will serve as the basis for state-of-the-art therapeutic decision making.
Dr. Singh’s expertise extends to all head and neck cancers, with a particular focus on cancers of the mouth, skull base, and salivary and thyroid glands, as well as melanomas and skin cancers of the head and neck region. Dr. Singh is a U.S. News Top Doctor, has received several research awards, and has authored numerous articles and book chapters on head and neck surgery and on AIDS.
