Charles S. Kleinman, MD (1947-2011) was the director of pediatric cardiac imaging and a professor of clinical pediatrics in obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill-Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. Internationally known for his work in fetal and pediatric cardiology, Dr. Kleinman was described in a 2008 American Heart Association council newsletter as “the father of fetal echocardiography.” He was the author, with Istvan Seri, MD, of Hemodynamics and Cardiology: Neonatology Questions and Controversies, 2nd Edition.

Dr. Kleinman served as Chief of Perinatal Cardiology at New-York Presbyterian Center for Prenatal Pediatrics. Before joining the staff at NYP, he was an adjunct professor of pediatrics, diagnostic imaging, and obstetrics and gynecology at Nemours Cardiac Center, the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women in Orlando. Previously, he held the post of Professor of Pediatrics, Diagnostic Imaging and Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology, at Yale University Medical School.

Dr. Kleinman received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1972. He completed his internship and residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center, and performed fellowships at Cornell University Medical College and the University of California at San Francisco.

During his lifetime Dr. Kleinman consistently appeared in rankings such as Best Cardiovascular Physicians in America, Best Doctors in America, Top Physicians in America, and Top Pediatricians in America. He authored 83 peer-reviewed manuscripts, wrote numerous chapters and reviews, served on the editorial board of several journals in cardiology and obstetrics, and was a presenter or lecturer at more than a hundred national and international meetings.
