David Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP, is an associate clinical professor of epidemiology and public health and medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. He is also the founding director of the Yale-Griffin Preventive Research Center in Derby, Connecticut. He is a co-author of Jekel’s Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Preventive Medicine, and Public Health, 4th Edition.
Dr. Katz is an internationally renowned authority on nutrition, weight management, and the prevention of chronic disease, and a recognized leader in integrative medicine and patient-centered care. He is the founder and president of the non-profit Turn the Tide Foundation, which works to reverse trends in obesity and chronic disease. Programming developed by Dr. Katz and colleagues, such as “Nutrition Detectives” and “ABC for Fitness,” have been adopted by thousands of public schools in the US and abroad.
Among his many honors, Dr. Katz has twice been recognized by the Consumers Research Council of America as one of America’s Top Physicians in preventive medicine. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Yale Alumni in Public Health in 2009. Additionally in 2009, Dr. Katz was nominated for the position of US Surgeon General by organizations including the American College of Physicians, the American College of Preventive Medicine, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest.
Dr. Katz received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1988. He earned his MPH from the Yale University School of Public Health in 1993.
A health columnist to the New York Times syndicate, Dr. Katz has published nearly a thousand newspaper columns in addition to over 100 scientific papers, numerous textbook chapters, and twelve books.
