Donald Trunkey, MD is Professor of Surgery (Emeritus) in the Section of Trauma/Critical Care at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. He is a co-author of Current Therapy of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Trunkey received his medical degree from the University of Washington and completed his residency in general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He performed a fellowship in trauma at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He is board certified in surgery, vascular surgery, and critical care.

Dr. Trunkey’s clinical interests include general surgery, critical care, and trauma. His research    interests include cellular pathophysiology (shock-related), resuscitation of shocked primates, identification of immune deficiencies following the shock insult, and thermal injury.

Dr. Trunkey has previously served as Chief of Surgery at San Francisco General Hospital, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University, and President of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. He has also held several positions with the American Board of Surgery, the American Burn Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Surgical Association, the American Trauma Society, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the International Society of Surgery, among many others. Dr. Trunkey has served on the editorial boards of several prestigious professional publications and is the author of 174 journal articles, 203 book chapters, and 25 books, and is the recipient of numerous awards.
