Edward C. Benzel, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic and is a professor of surgery, at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He has authored seven textbooks, including the two-volume set, Spine Surgery: Techniques, Complications, Avoidance and Management, 3rd Edition, and more than 250 book chapters.
Dr. Benzel serves as a reviewer of numerous professional neurosurgical and spine publications, and has served as co-chair of the Journal of Neurosurgery’s editorial review board, and as chairman of the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine’s review board. He has been actively involved in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgery, North American Spine Society, World Spinal Cord Society, and Cervical Spine Research Society and is one of the founding members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. Dr. Benzel’s innovations in Neurosurgery Resident Education have won accolades and numerous awards.
