Gary A. Ulaner, MD, PhD is Associate Attending Radiologist, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is the author of Fundamentals of Oncologic PET/CT.

 

Dr. Ulaner earned his MD and PhD in Cancer Biology from Stanford University School of Medicine. After residencies at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Southern California, he performed a fellowship at USC. He is board certified in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

 

Dr. Ulaner is a PET/CT expert on the Breast Cancer Disease Management Team at Memorial Sloan Kettering. He is the principal investigator on clinical trials for four novel PET imaging agents for people with breast cancer, with research focusing on using targeted imaging to help guide targeted therapy. Dr. Ulaner’s work has been featured in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, Radiology, and the Journal of Nuclear Medicine. He serves on the editorial boards of Radiology, the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, and Clinical Nuclear Medicine and as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance, and he serves on MSK’s Institutional Review Board to optimize patient safety in clinical trials.

 

Dr. Ulaner’s many awards and honors include teaching awards from both MSK and Weill Cornell Medical College, as well as the Department of Defense Breakthrough Award, the Susan G. Komen Foundation Career Catalyst Award, the RSNA Award for Excellence in Research, and many more. Dr. Ulaner is the founder and director of MSK’s annual Oncologic PET/CT Continuing Medical Education course, which teaches PET imaging to an international audience.
