Hugh C. Hemmings, BS, MD, PhD, is a professor of pharmacology and anesthesiology and Vice Chairman of Research in Anesthesiology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He has authored more than 100 publications, including the text Pharmacology and Physiology for Anesthesia.
Dr. Hemmings’ clinical practice focuses on anesthesia for thoracic surgery and other high risk procedures, and he leads research that investigates the neuropharmacology of general anesthetics, neuroprotection, cell signaling and novel analgesia therapies. He has received the Investigator Award for his work studying the effects of general anesthetics on presynaptic protein phosphorylation as a target for anesthetic action.
