James de Lemos, MD is Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas; Cardiology Service Chief, Parkland Memorial Hospital; and Associate Director, UT Southwestern Cardiovascular Fellowship Program. He is a co-author of Chronic Coronary Artery Disease: A Companion to Braunwald’s Heart Disease.

 

Dr. de Lemos graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed an internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He performed a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine and served on the faculty at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston before returning to UT Southwestern to join the faculty.

 

He has served on multiple committees of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology and is on the editorial board of Circulation, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the American Journal of Cardiology, and the American Heart Journal.  He has mentored more than 25 post-doctoral research trainees and has authored or co-authored more than 300 manuscripts or book chapters.

 

Dr. de Lemos is active in clinical research, focusing on large-scale human studies and clinical trials. He was the lead author of the Z phase of the A-to-Z Trial, an international trial investigating different cholesterol-lowering strategies in patients with acute coronary syndromes. He is currently Medical Director of the Dallas Heart Study, a multiethnic population-based study of more than 6,000 adults from Dallas County. He also serves as the Research and Publications Director for the NCDR-ACTION Registry, the nation’s premier quality improvement initiative for patients with heart attacks.
