James H. Beaty, MD is professor of orthopaedics at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic. A specialist in pediatric orthopaedics and pediatric trauma, he is well-published in the field, having served as an associate editor for the Instructional Course Lecture Series of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and has held editorial roles with the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, the American Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, The Joint Letter and the Journal of the Southern Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Beaty has authored 48 book chapters and edited several textbooks, including the four-volume set, Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics 13th, Edition.
Dr. Beaty earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and has completed residencies in orthopaedic surgery and general surgery, and a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics. Highly involved in multiple professional societies, Dr. Beaty has served as president of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Beaty is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and has held leadership positions on various AAOS committees.
