John A. Marx, MD was a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina. He authored numerous chapters, clinical papers, and original contributions for scientific publications and was editor of the two-volume set, Rosen’s Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice, 7th Edition.
Dr. Marx was highly regarded in the field of emergency medicine, and served as a past president of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. He was a member of the founding editorial boards of Academic Emergency Medicine, Journal of Emergency Medicine, and Emergindex (Microindex). His research interests focused on abdominal trauma and alcohol-related emergencies. In recognition of his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Marx was awarded the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Academic Excellence Award, the American College of Emergency Physicians Contributions to Education Award, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine David K. Wagner Award, the SAEM Leadership Award, and the University of Maryland Department of Emergency Medicine Outstanding Contributions to Emergency Medicine Education Award. Dr. Marx was also named among American College of Emergency Physicians’ Heroes in Emergency Medicine.
